What is your favorite genre to read? Where/how do you find your favorite pieces/books?

What questions/ thoughts do you have about multigenre? How can you see yourself using multigenre in your classroom?

You were asked to choose three students you realized you needed to get to know from the “Making a List” activity we did in class. Reflect on how it went.

The blog assignment was to use the “Instructional Purpose” questionnaire found on page 128 of Do I Really Have to Teach Reading? with an up-coming lesson of your choice then reflect. Was this helpful? Did the questions lead you to new thinking? Would you use this form again?

Choose a literacy strategy to try with your class. You can choose something from our current text, a literacy spotlight, or Janet Allen’s Tools for Teaching Content Literacy. Blog about what you did and how it went.

Monday’s class will be focused on assessment. Think about and respond to some of these questions in preparation for class.What questions do you have about assessment? What are your “pet peeves” in regard to assessment? How do you choose your assessments? What is authentic assessment?

During Wednesday’s class we looked at several scenarios regarding learning and began to explore the concept of immersion. In a perfect world, if you could choose a unit of study to try immersion with, what resources would you need? Choose a unit/topic and post a list of at least ten resources you would like to have (it doesn’t have to just be books).

During our first class you were asked to remember yourself as a middle schooler. Think back to your experiences as a student. When were you most engaged as a learner? Was it a particular class or teacher? A particular book or assignment? Now think about the opposite side. What made you “tune out” as a learner? What could have helped you become more engaged?
